Healthcare Informatics

Health care informatics is the combination of computer science, healthcare and information science. We use it to combine healthcare information which is used for research, patient care, billing etc. Healthcare informatics plays a role in the formation of clinical information systems and electronic health records.

The first week of Health Care Informatics has taught me many lessons. I did not know what health care informatics was to begin with. Now, I am becoming comfortable with many of the terms used such as dissemination, acquisition, and ergonomic. I have an introductory knowledge of what a clinical information system is and it’s purpose. Clinical information systems are the framework for electronic charting in the electronic medical record. Clinical information systems help prevent medical errors involving the misinterpretation of handwriting or verbal orders. They also sent alerts about medication allergies, medication dose timing to prevent errors. Clinical information systems hold data that can be searched and used for research on specific patient outcomes and disease processes.

This week has opened my eyes to the big wide world of social networking. I never thought of myself as computer savvy and had minimal experience using social networking systems. I now have a twitter account and have enjoyed using it. I was previously unaware how important social networking is in the business world and job market.

Technology can be fun and exciting, if we jump in and overcome the intimidation. Thank you all who have read my one and only blog! I hope you all will join me in further blogging!
